Connect Cardinal Desktop Application to Datadog for monitoring logs, metrics, and traces.

Overview

Datadog is a monitoring and analytics platform for cloud applications. With the Datadog connector, your AI agents can:

  • Search and analyze logs using full-text and semantic search
  • Query metrics with time-series aggregations
  • Trace distributed systems across services
  • Access dashboards and monitor configurations
  • Query alert monitors to check system health

Prerequisites

  • A Datadog account (free tier or paid)
  • Datadog API key and App key
  • Data flowing into Datadog (logs, metrics, or traces)
  • Appropriate permissions to access data

Finding Your Credentials

API Key and Application Key

The URL for your API and Application keys depends on your Datadog site:

For Application Keys, use the same base URL and replace /api-keys with /application-keys:

To find or create keys:

  1. Navigate to the appropriate URL for your site
  2. Find an existing key or click Create API Key / Create Application Key
  3. API keys start with dd_
  4. Copy the key and paste it into Cardinal Desktop Application

Datadog Site

Your Datadog site depends on your account region:

Setup Wizard

Step 1 - Display Name

  1. In Cardinal Desktop Application, go to Connectors and click Browse Connectors
  2. Select Datadog
  3. Enter a Display Name for this datasource connection (e.g., "Datadog Prod", "Datadog Dev")

Step 2 - Select Your Site

  1. Choose your Site from the dropdown
    • Default: us3.datadoghq.com (US East)
    • EU: datadoghq.eu
    • US West: us5.datadoghq.com
    • See table above for other regions
  2. You can also click Custom to enter a custom site URL

Step 3 - Enter Your Credentials

  1. Get your API Key:

  2. Get your Application Key:

  3. Check Share credentials with organization (optional)

    • When disabled: credentials are stored locally on this device
    • When enabled: credentials are securely shared with your organization

Step 4 - Save

  1. Review the configuration
  2. Click Save
  3. Cardinal Desktop Application will verify the connection

Your AI agent can now access Datadog logs, metrics, and traces.
